On September 26, the Théâtre du Jeu de Paume in Aix-en-Provence will host a unique performance of L'Uomo più crudele del mondo, a gripping and intriguing Italian play. In an abandoned warehouse, a powerful arms industry magnate agrees to answer questions from a young journalist. But the interview quickly takes an unexpected turn. Through a dialogue as taut as it is ambiguous, certainties crumble and the roles of victim and perpetrator begin to reverse. For 60 minutes, the audience is swept into a true theatrical investigation where the boundary between humanity and cruelty becomes increasingly blurred.
A face-off that blurs the lines
Written and directed by Davide Sacco, the play rests on deliberately minimalist staging and a mise-en-scène that gradually lets violence take hold. On stage, Lino Guanciale and Francesco Montanari embody the two protagonists in a face-off that constantly transforms. Victim, guilty party, torturer: the positions shift until they challenge everything the audience thought they understood. A way of raising, without ever providing ready-made answers, some rather dizzying questions: how far can human cruelty go? And at what point do we stop being human?

An Italian show with French subtitles in Aix-en-Provence
After enjoying great success in Italy, L'Uomo più crudele del mondo embarks on an international tour in 2026 and will notably stop in Aix-en-Provence with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of Marseille. The show will be presented in Italian, with French subtitles, allowing the audience to fully enjoy this theatrical experience. The performance takes place Saturday, September 26 at 8pm at the Théâtre du Jeu de Paume, for a one-hour show. Only one date is scheduled in Aix-en-Provence, the perfect opportunity to discover a contemporary Italian piece that plays with both your nerves and your certainties.
