Great news for families and seniors: free public transport is continuing in September 2026 across the entire Aix-Marseille Metropolis territory. Buses, metro, tram, coaches, and certain maritime shuttles are included in the 92 metropolitan municipalities, from Marseille to Aix-en-Provence, including Aubagne, La Ciotat, Martigues, Istres, and Salon-de-Provence. In total, nearly 740,000 residents can benefit from this measure intended for children under 11 and people aged 65 and over.

One mobility card is all you need to enjoy free transportation
To benefit from free travel, you must first live in one of the 92 municipalities of the Metropolis and have a mobility card. If you already have one with an annual subscription or permanent pass, no action is required: the transition to free travel happens automatically. Those who have already paid their annual subscription can also request reimbursement for the period covered by the free travel offer. If you don't have a card yet, you can apply for one online with proof of residence, an ID card, and a photo. Once you receive your card, you simply need to activate the Free Pass at a metro or tram station, certain bus stations, or at one of the La Métro shops

Bus, metro, tram, coaches… which transport options are free?
The measure concerns the vast majority of metropolitan public transport. In Marseille, it allows you to travel free of charge by bus, metro and tram, as well as take coaches to Marignane airport or certain maritime shuttles, including the ferry boat that crosses the Old Harbor. The transport networks of Aix-en-Provence, Martigues, Istres and other municipalities in the Metropolis are also included. Only shuttles to the Frioul islands remain excluded, except for island residents, as well as the bike rental service. Please note: even with a free pass, card validation remains mandatory for each journey. It allows RTM to track network usage and itsabsence can result in a fine of 5 euros
