Built in 1879 from elements of the machinery gallery of the Universal Exhibition, the Hangar Y has long served as a place to test, store, and manufacture airships. It subsequently housed the first Air and Space Museum, as well as numerous large-scale artistic projects. In 1963, the painter Marc Chagall, for example, settled there with his assistants to assemble his 220 m2 ceiling created for the Paris Opera. In 2003, the hangar was transformed into a military hospital by the director Jean-Pierre Jeunet to shoot several scenes for his film A Very Long Engagement, starring Audrey Tautou and GaspardUlliel.
An exceptional site to discover
With its iron structure and exposed bricks, its 23 meters high ceilings, its glass roof that bathes the interior in light, and its curved and symmetrical lines, the Hangar Y offers exceptional views and brightness. Outside, you will discover a unique outdoor art trail in the Greater Paris area, featuring works by around twenty international artists such as Christian Boltanski, Sarah Lucas, Shilpa Gupta, Ernesto Neto, Wang Keping, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Ugo Rondinone, Subodh Gupta, and Kiki Smith.

Located on a portion of the vast estate of the royal château of Meudon, the park features a fragment of the historic garden designed by André Le Nôtre. Our company, Nôtre, was the official landscaper of the Palace of Versailles during the reign of Louis XIV. Here, you will discover a magnificent view of the lush greenery in the Grand Perspective, where you can appreciate the symmetrical geometric shapes that border the vegetation and paths, as well as the neatly ordered lawns of the Green Carpet.
In the middle, the Chalais Basin provides us with a peaceful setting, bordered by its historic reed bed and pontoons that were once used by fishermen. This exceptional site also features a children's playground, picnic tables, and benches, making it perfect for a friendly and idyllic lunch.
And that's not all! Starting from March 22nd, an inaugural exhibition organized by Art Explora, invited by Hangar Y as part of their sponsorship program, pays tribute to the original purpose of the site by focusing on the theme of flying machines. From Leonardo da Vinci's first flying machines from the 19th century to Jules Verne's grand hot air balloon drawing, the "Dans l'air, les machines volantes" exhibition also brings together around forty contemporary artworks created in the last three decades: poetic paintings, videos, monumental sculptures, photographs, and models...
