Pibrac is getting ready to unveil a 5-hectare organic vegetable farm. The town has been working on this ambitious project for several years. Today, things are becoming real: the land is ready, the farm building is constructed, and a well with a water reserve of 100m³ has been set up. Everything is grouped around the same core, like a micro-city dedicated to the earth and ecological transition.
The goal is clear: to produce locally and sustainably to feed the residents. This new green lung fits into a coherent and environmentally friendly agricultural vision, directly aligned with the growing needs for short supply circuits and organic production. The dream of local food autonomy is taking root here.
A first call for projects that fell flat
The project could have already started… buts the first call for applications was a failure. Two vegetable growers had shown interest at the end of 2024 but decided to throw in the towel. Not enough guarantees, a too rigid specification, or maybe a bit of both. The result: a ready plot of land, but still no farmer in boots.
In light of this failure, the municipality decided to revise its approach. It refined the criteria, streamlined the process, and opened the door to more diverse profiles. The goal now is to attract serious professionals while making it easier for project holders who are in transition.
Eat better, grow local, educate differently
The farm's production will primarily be aimed at the school canteens in Pibrac. A concrete project aimed at providing seasonal fruits and vegetables to the local youth. The idea is to build a short, healthy supply chain that makes sense right down to the plates. But the project's mission goes far beyond just agricultural yield. In the long run, educational workshops will be set up for students and children at the leisure center. It's all about sowing the seeds of eco-responsibility from a very young age.
A new call for applications has been launched until October 19, 2025. The town is looking for one or more farmers who already have a solid organic farming project. The goal: to establish an economically viable activity that is rooted in the local community and aligns with the town's values. Selected candidates will first sign a 5-year commodat, followed by an environmental rural lease. In other words, this is serious: the City of Pibrac isn’t looking for weekend gardeners, but rather committed partners to help cultivate a collective and sustainable project.
See you in 2026 for the first harvests
All the information to apply is available on the town's website. So, if you have a green thumb, a bio project in mind, and the desire to join a local agricultural adventure, you know where to plant your flag. In Pibrac, the carrots aren’t (yet) cooked; they're just starting to sprout.
