Nearly 2000 years ago, right where we’ll soon be patiently waiting for the subway, there was already an ancient road bustling with activity. Excavations have uncovered a stone pavement that might be an old pathway, but also a pit filled with burnt objects: glass, ceramics, metal… Clues that suggest we’re looking at an ancient dump, likely connected to a Roman cremation area. So, not exactly a glamorous spot, but a true treasure trove for understanding the practices of the time.

6 Tombs Discovered
And this is just the beginning : A small building from late antiquity has also been discovered, along with six burials spanning several centuries. One of them particularly caught the attention of archaeologists : a woman buried with gold beads, a detail that speaks volumes about the funerary rites and social status of certain individuals from that time.
After 7 months of digging, the work is finally about to begin!
The remains also reveal traces of a city that is gradually taking shape: foundations of houses, streets, cellars, and even latrine pits. But the most impressive find is definitely this well-preserved 16th-century brick bridge. It once allowed people to cross an aqueduct trench and showcases the ingenuity of the builders from that time. However, other elements remain elusive: the old bridge and its barbican, which archaeologists are searching for, have yet to resurface. All these discoveries will be studied in the laboratory afterward.
