Toulouse is once again making headlines in a ranking! Three universities from Toulouse have made it to the top 1,000 institutions selected as the best in the world in the renowned Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. We have Université Paul Sabatier (Toulouse 3), landing in the range of 301 to 400, tied with Université Toulouse Capitole. Institut National Supérieur de Technologie (INSA Toulouse) completes the trio, earning a spot in the 801-900 range of the ranking.
On a national level, the three Toulouse institutions rank respectively at 12th place for Université Paul Sabatier (Toulouse 3) and Université Toulouse Capitole, and in 22nd position for INSA Toulouse.

25 French Institutions in the Global Ranking
The Shanghai Ranking 2024 is based on several criteria such as the number of Nobel Prize winners and Fields Medalists among alumni and faculty, the number of highly cited professors in their fields, and the volume of publications in scientific journals. While the ranking of universities in the pink city may seem encouraging, Toulouse universities still struggle to break into the top 100 and are ranked lower than some of their French peers. Notably, Paris-Saclay is in 12th place, PSL Paris is in 33rd place, La Sorbonne is in 41st place, and Paris Cité is also mentioned.the 60th position.
It’s worth noting at the same time that most of the French institutions featured in the ranking have made progress. This is a great sign for the future that gives hope for even better days to come...!
