No official announcement, no press release: the news came almost by chance. The Perfetti Van Melle group, which has owned the brand since 2023, has reportedly stopped the production and distribution of the famous black pastilles with cachou powder. This decision is said to have been motivated by a drop in demand, although employees are holding on to a glimmer of hope for a possible restart. In the meantime, those yellow boxes are becoming increasingly rare on the shelves.

A threatened symbol of Toulouse
Created in 1880 by pharmacist Léon Lajaunie, these candies have become a true emblem of Toulouse. Seeing this historic product disappear due to industrial decisions saddens many locals, who see it as yet another piece of local heritage swallowed up by large international groups. The future of Cachou remains uncertain, but one thing is for sure: in Toulouse, their memory is still strong and filled with emotion.
