The verdict is in! The famous travel guide Lonely Planet has picked a French city as the top of its list in the annual Best in Travel, ranking the 10 must-visit travel destinations. While we would have loved to see Paris snag the prestigious title of the best city in the world to visit in 2025, it’s actually a different city, further south, that has taken the honor. It’s the home of artists Big Flo and Oli, rugby star Antoine Dupont, and Olympic champion swimmer Léon Marchand… You guessed it, it’s Toulouse that has been selected.

The Pink City, favorite destination for 2025
A unique historical heritage, a remarkably distinctive cuisine, a mild Mediterranean climate, a lively nightlife… Toulouse, also known as the Pink City, has everything to please. In fact, it attracts around 5 million visitors every year. For Nitya Chambers, vice president and editor-in-chief of Lonely Planet, there’s no doubt: Toulouse is “an ideal destination for a weekend, a true urban labyrinth with art galleries, repurposed industrial buildings, and cafés” she tells CNN.

Unknown or Less Touristy Cities Selected in the Top 10
The cities that complete the rest of the Top 10 are found all over the world. Pondicherry, a tropical city with colonial architecture and majestic Hindu temples, located in southern India, takes the second spot. Next up is Bansko, a little-known Bulgarian town that's recognized as a popular ski resort in winter, boasting a rich cultural heritage. Chiang Mai in Thailand, Genoa in Italy, Pittsburgh in the United States, Osaka in Japan, Curitiba in Brazil, Palma de Mallorca in Spain, and Edmonton in Canada fill the remaining seven spots.
