Starting next year, Toulouse will launch an ultra-modern river shuttle to connect the city to the Mediterranean Sea in less than 30 minutes. And when we say ultra-modern, we’re talking about technology inspired by SpaceX, featuring supersonic thrusters and mind-blowing cruise speeds. Welcome to the future of river transport, ladies and gentlemen!

The futuristic project: river travel... but almost space-like!

Called Le Toulousain Express, this river shuttle has absolutely nothing to envy from Musk's space shuttles. Powered by next-generation hydrogen turbines, it zooms along the Canal du Midi, covering the 150 kilometers to the sea in the blink of an eye. In less than 30 minutes, you'll be at the beach. Yes, you read that right: 30 minutes!

The ...idée, it’s all about creating a mode of transport that is as fast as it is safe, while keeping the relaxing aspect of river travel », explains Jean-Pierre Giraud, the project director. « The people of Toulouse are tired of highways and traffic jams. Why not offer them a worthy alternative ? »

A dream journey that's almost interstellar

The journey will take place in ultra-modern, fully transparent cabins, where passengers can admire the landscapes while relaxing. Gone are the old barges, and in comes a futuristic design with massage seats, augmented reality to gaze at the stars (or at least try), and touch screens to order your next mojito directly from your seat. And for those who have always dreamed of experiencing a space flight, The Toulouse Express offers a launch in "acceleration" mode like a rocket right from the very first minutes of navigation.« It's like a little takeoff », comments Jean-Pierre with a smile.

No worries, safety is definitely the priority. Automated systems, inspired by those used in SpaceX rockets, allow the shuttle to stabilize at an impressive speed while staying perfectly safe. And if any problem arises, no need to worry: every passenger will get a parachute… just for fun. Well, not really for fun, but you never know, right?

Why the Canal du Midi?

The Canal du Midi, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has been chosen for its beauty and ideal route. With a little touch of modernity (and a dash of boldness), this historic canal is becoming the stage for a transportation project of the future. And if you're lucky, you might even spot a film crew from Find Star Wars in sight!

¡Hey, are you ready to dive into the adventure of a galaxy far, far away?
