In Toulouse, the violet is so much more than just a small purple flower that gently blooms in spring. It's an emblem, a source of pride, almost a local religion! Every year, the Violet Festival marks the arrival of the first blooms and reminds us just how versatile this plant is. We enjoy it as crystallized candy (the best kind), we breathe it in as perfume, we give it as a sign of affection, we transform it into syrup, honey, cosmetics... Its possibilities are endless.

And throughout the whole weekend, from 10 AM to 5 PM, the Place du Capitole transforms into a colorful market. Producers and artisans arrive with their creations: violet pastries, delicate soaps, unique handcrafted items... The municipal greenhouses of Toulouse will also join the fun with a floral exhibition that promises to be exceptional. And if you want to extend the experience at home, potting workshops will allow you to leave with your own plant. Perfect for adding some flowers to your balcony as soon as the first rays of sunshine appear.
This year, pastel joins the celebration
New in 2026 : the violet shares the spotlight with pastel, another historical treasure of the region. For those who don’t know (shame on you!), pastel is this .
Plant that made Toulouse wealthy during the Renaissance thanks to its intense blue pigment, nicknamed "Blue of the Land of Cocagne." A wonderful opportunity to rediscover this chapter of local history. Dedicated exhibitions will allow you to dive into the world of woad, understand its role in the former regional economy, and see how it continues to inspire artisans and creators today.
