Three life-sized skeletons and five giant 3D sculptures immerse you in their world, with a few specimens that are definitely worth the trip: Gigantopithecus blacki, an Asian monkey three times the size of an orangutan (yes, King Kong may not be a myth!); Gastornis laurenti, a giant bird that couldn’t fly, discovered in the region and on display here for the first time; and other marine and terrestrial creatures that would have...Without a doubt, Spielberg's movies would have dominated if they hadn't disappeared...
An interactive exhibit to play the paleontologist
Here, we don’t just observe, we investigate! Thanks to the interactive setups, everyone can step into the shoes of a paleontologist and uncover the mysteries of these forgotten giants. Why did these mastodons disappear when they ruled their environment? How do some of their distant relatives (elephants, blue whales, gorillas) manage to survive today? One thing is for sure: their gigantic size, which once seemed like an advantage, ultimately turned against them...
With "Giants", the Museum of Toulouse reminds us that nature loves to think big... before it makes things disappear. And what if this is a warning for our modern giants, who are now threatened in turn?
