Strasbourg is the capital of Europe

Starting off, Strasbourg is nothing less than the capital of the great continent that is Europe. With the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, and all the institutions related to this status, and especially the cultural influence that stems from it, our Eurometropolis is a hub for all sorts of things, whether it's politics, culture, research... It definitely carries weight.

Strasbourg loves good food, from Alsace and beyond

Everything delicious in our beautiful region can be found in Strasbourg, which also proudly holds the title of being the capital of Alsace. From tarte flambée to locally brewed beers, sauerkraut, pretzels, bredele, and other well-known specialties that shine beyond our borders, Strasbourg has it all.

Moreover, Alsace boasts thirty Michelin-starred chefs, which is quite impressive. And we know how to indulge in more than just flamkueche, as restaurants of all kinds buzz all over: Italian, Asian, Indian, American-style burgers... With really high-quality establishments. Our plates are never dull.

Strasbourg has a lot to offer

With Germany right next door, Strasbourg is one of the cities that has embraced the electro scene and knows how to bring it to life with emerging collectives booking nights worthy of the biggest Parisian or Berlin clubs with top names from the industry.

When it comes to concerts, Strasbourg doesn't disappoint either. Every year, venues like La Laiterie or Le Zénith host performances by some of the biggest national and international artists: IAM, Deep Purple, Nekfeu, Roch Voisine, UB40, Nada Surf, Véronique Sanson, the Scorpions... Yes, there's something for everyone.

Strasbourg is a student city that welcomes students from around the world

And when we say student city, we mean a city that moves! Strasbourg loves its students and shows it well. Our city is full of numerous student organizations and associations, and offers student residences. Strasbourg is also part of the trinational Eucor network (League of European Seach University).

Furthermore, three Nobel laureates in chemistry and one Nobel laureate in medicine teach at the university. Among other advantages. And on top of that, our Eurometropolis welcomes no less than 20% of foreign students according to the L'Étudiant website. An opportunity to meet people from all over the world.

Strasbourg is at the forefront of the transportation of tomorrow

Strasbourg has the first tram network in France and is also the leading cycling city in the country (and the fourth worldwide). These modern means of transportation not only make it a healthier city day by day, but also contribute to its overall sustainability. Additionally, Strasbourg has a nearby airport and it is now possible to travel to Germany by tram.

Strasbourg boasts significant heritage

Every year, Strasbourg unveils or re-discovers its historical and artistic treasures to the public during Heritage Days. There is so much to see, from the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Rohan Palace, the Museum of Decorative Arts, and the many other museums, to the Saint-Étienne Episcopal School, the Gayot Hotel, and la Petite France... We invite you to discover the history of all these monuments, which embellish the landscape and our streets.

Many famous personalities are from Alsace

 Alain Bashung

Did you know that Gutenberg did his first work on printing in Strasbourg? Many painters, writers, researchers, theorists, political figures were born in our beautiful city or in the Alsace region. Wikipedia has created a small, non-exhaustive catalogue about them.

On our side, we like to mention Gustave Doré, Marcel Marceau, Albert Schweitzer, Tomi Ungerer, Sebastien Loeb, Abd Al Malik, Pierre Hermé, Alain Bashung, Thierry Mugler, Auguste Bartholdi (who created the Statue of Liberty, yes yes)...

Strasbourg is a border city

Even though we suffered from having to learn German from primary school in our schools in Alsace, now we are quite happy to have Germany right next door, whether it's for its clubs, its spots, its pools, its museums or its cigarettes and cheaper alcohol than here. Everyone will find a good reason to go there, and we have to admit that it's really nice to be able to change countries in less than twenty minutes.

By gathering all these advantages (we surely forgot some), we realize why tourists like to slow us down in the streets of Strasbourg. And compared to other cities in France, it is certain that the world will eventually realize that the real "city to be" is still ours.
