Welcome to Aux Petits Plats de Mamama, a restaurant located in Rothau in the Bas-Rhin region, which has decided to do a big clean-up… when it comes to mobile phones! Since September 2023, Sandra and Olivier, the managers, have taken quite a bold step: there's a strict ban on using your phone at the table. Here, the rule is simple: your smartphone stays in your pocket or bag, on silent, and if you really need to make a call, it happens outside.

Why this decision? Because our two restaurant owners simply had enough of coming back three times to the same table to take an order, only to be politely pushed away by customers too absorbed by their screens.I was told to come back later, and then they complained that it was taking too long,” shares Sandra, the boss, in remarks collected by France Bleu. But since the phones have disappeared from the tables, the magic is working: conversations are coming back to life, laughter is ringing out, and the atmosphere has become friendly again.

A digital break is necessary

At Les Petits Plats de Mamama, where the restaurant also serves as a community thrift shop, both regulars and newcomers welcome this rule with a smile. “It’s bold, but it’s great!” confides a customer. Many admit that they..."It's nice to take a digital break, even though our phones have become like a third hand."

If you're having trouble disconnecting, this might not be the place for you. But if you're ready for a real break centered around a delicious meal, with good old-fashioned conversations, "Aux Petits Plats de Mamama" is just the spot you need! And who knows, maybe this phone ban will spark lively chats at the tables… just like in the good old days!
