The curtain has come down for Brioche Dorée at Place Kléber, which has been around since the early 2000s. On July 26th, the storefront displayed a permanent closure sign. Located at 4 rue des Grandes-Arcades, right across from McDonald's, this establishment had quietly weathered the ups and downs of downtown life. Even though the quality wasn't always praised, Brioche Dorée was one of those urban landmarks we believed would last forever. Until they disappear.

According to CFDT, this closure was announced internally as early as April, without any apparent reason. This marks the fourth similar closure in France this year for the fast bakery chain. However, there won’t be a shutter down for too long: the Le Duff group, which owns the building, has only sold the business. And it seems they found a new owner quite quickly.

LThe grease is setting up right in the city center

According to Pokaa, it's the Arios company, affiliated with O’Tacos, that is preparing to take over the place. Already registered at this address since March 12, it marks the arrival of the very first O’Tacos right in the heart of Strasbourg's hypercenter. While the exact opening date is still unknown, the direction is clear: Strasbourg is continuing its transformation into a fast-food hub. With McDonald's, Berliner Das Original, Five Guys, and soon O’Tacos, Place Kléber is becoming a true triangle - or rather square - of grease, a concentrated bundle of unapologetic calories right in the city center.

The disappearance of an iconic brand in favor of a fast-food giant is .

also a reflection of the standardization of city centers.
Less diversity, more chains, and the Grande-Arcades street is starting to look like an open-air shopping mall. While some may see it as a logical evolution, others will feel it's the end of an era. In any case, in Strasbourg, tacos are replacing apple pies, and pastries are making way for XXL gratins.
