L'Auberge au Boeuf was a place that mattered. Located in Sessenheim, just a few kilometers from Haguenau and half an hour from Strasbourg, it earned its Michelin star in 2015, a recognition that highlighted the cuisine of Yannick Germain and put this Alsatian village on the regional gastronomic map. Ten years of distinction, consistency, and meticulous work were wiped away in a stroke of a red pen on March 10, 2026, when the guide published its list of 21 restaurants that had been downgraded ahead of the big ceremony in Monaco.
An Alsace of gastronomy
The One That Stands Tall
With this loss, Alsace now has 34 starred restaurants. This is still quite a remarkable number for a region of this size, showcasing a vibrant and creative culinary scene. Strasbourg keeps its six starred establishments: 1741, Au Crocodile, De:ja, Les Funambules, Umami, and Les Plaisirs Gourmands, which has moved from Schiltigheim, with none affected by this wave of demotions. Last year, La Cheneaudière and Auberge chez Guth earned their first star at the 2025 ceremony in Metz, proving that the region knows how to keep reinventing itself!
