In total, five wooden shelters will be popping up in the city to tackle the growing number of pigeons. But for now, two have already settled in at Robert-Heitz Square at the Esplanade and at the White Gate near the train station. These pigeon lofts have been designed to gather pigeon populations while providing them with a lovely living environment, complete with food and water galore.

Highly Monitored Eggs

Inside these comfy structures, there are no less than 76 nests available for pairs of pigeons. The idea? To create a little haven where our feathered friends can thrive. On average, each pair could host up to 400 pigeons. We're talking about a real avian palace where the birds can lay their eggs in peace. Even before the first eggs are laid, ten "planted" pigeons are kept in captivity to attract their fellow birds to this sanctuary.

An effective pigeon control plan

The approach is clever: Specialists come in twice a month to sterilize some of the eggs using a fine needle that creates an air bubble inside. The goal? To limit the offspring to one or two chicks per couple each year instead of the usual number.it's usual. Because yes, it's crazy how prolific these birds can be! Marie-Franรงoise Hamard, the municipal councilor in charge of animals, emphasizes this gentle approach: "We want to manage this issue without cruelty." In total, five pigeon houses will be installed in various neighborhoods where the bird population is particularly high.
