Why, at Place Broglie, the Opéra National du Rhin has seen countless artists... and years go by! The problem is: since 1997, safety standards have not been met, the acoustics are not great, and half of the 1,100 seats have poor visibility (yes, we’re using the right terms here). Hence this colossal project, led by Mayor Jeanne Barseghian, who wants to put Strasbourg on the international map with a brand-new opera house.
A redesigned theater for all the arts
The future venue will be designed to host everything from lyrical art to modern dance performances. We're talking about expanding the building, rethinking the stage, and improving the acoustics… and most importantly, providing all spectators with a perfect view by reducing the capacity to 950 seats.

Construction starts in 2028, delivery in 2033
Yes, this is a project that will require a bit of patience. An architecture competition will be launched this June to envision this new era. Construction will begin in the autumn of 2028, with delivery expected in 2033. In the meantime, much of the programming will be transferred to the Palais des Fêtes. And we can already tell you that we're super excited!
