As the pavement heats up and heatwaves come faster than a sunny terrace aperitif, Strasbourg is taking action. On July 8th, the Eurometropolis launched "My Green Grant", a generous aid – up to 20,000 euros, just like that! – to encourage owners to transform their concrete spaces into little green paradises. The goal: to boost the urban canopy and eliminate those pesky heat islands that turn cities into furnaces.

A helping hand for homeowners and private landlords

Behind this somewhat poetic project is a very concrete logic. While public spaces make up 30% of Strasbourg's land, they account for 75% of the canopy. In plain terms, to truly green the city, we also need to convince individuals to get their hands… in the dirt. That’s where this new grant comes into play. Whether you own a house or are a private landlord…

cute;, you can receive a nice big financial boost to green up your rooftops, facades, or even set up shelters for the local wildlife.

A two-year experiment

Led by the Climate Agency, the experiment spans two years and aims to support about thirty projects by 2027. As a bonus, funding is also available for training or awareness-raising activities, aimed at planting seeds of eco-consciousness all around. And if you want to take advantage of this, there's no need to dig out your rake just yet: a quick email to the Climate Agency or a phone call is all it takes to get your application started. Strasbourg is offering the grant, so it’s your turn to play the urban gardener.
