A few months ago, we announced that new trams with a fresh design would be appearing in 2025 and it’s still relevant, this time concerning a tram in the northern part of the city. On April 7th, 100 Strasbourgers, from all ages and backgrounds, received a very special call: they were selected to participate in a Citizens’ Convention. The goal? To re-examine the main aspects of the northern tram project and to make concrete recommendations to better serve this area, which is still too poorly connected. A first meeting took place on April 25 and 26, in the form of an immersive and collective training session.
Experts at the Table
To shed light on the discussions, experts in climate, urbanism, and mobility came to share their knowledge. Alain Clappier, a climatologist, emphasized the importance of ecological transition in transport. BenoWimbert from ADEUS talked about the connections between urban planning and mobility. The mobility department of the Eurometropolis laid the groundwork for the initial project, ensuring everyone starts from a common foundation.
This new tram is a strategic issue for more effectively connecting the north of Strasbourg to the rest of the metropolis. Among the 100 citizens gathered, half live or work in this area. They are merchants, students, retirees, or employees, each with their own daily mobility experience.
A 2nd session last weekend
And on the weekend of May 17, the members of the Conve...The convention has come together for a new working session. They had the opportunity to engage with a committee of guarantors, made up of researchers, law professors, and public debate experts. The goal is to keep digging into the issues, refine the ideas, and lay the groundwork for a tram system that truly meets the real needs of the residents. We’ll need a little more patience to fully uncover the project of the northern tram.
