Missing from the program since 2023 for security reasons, the ceremony had almost become an urban legend. But here it is again, written in black and white on the calendar: November 21 at 6 PM, head to Place Gutenberg. It’s there, at the foot of the famous blue tree, that the lights will come on for the very first time this year. To allow the people of Strasbourg to enjoy a more intimate moment, the lights will be switched on a few days before the official opening of the Christmas market. The idea: to enjoy the city before the 3.4 million visitors expected arrive in droves to admire the decorated streets.

Anne Sila, a piano, forty children…
And since you can’t partly reignite the magic, Strasbourg has planned a real musical evening. The godmother of the 2025 lights, Anne Sila, will take the stage accompanied by pianist Riadh Khodri for a concert as sweet as hot chocolate. The Gospels Kids choir (about forty children with voices that send shivers down your spine) will also bring their touch of emotion. In the air, you can feel the grand beginning: this evening marks the unofficial opening of the season, just before the 300 chalets of the Christmas market set up on November 26. The 2025 edition is already promising to be a hit.
