A few days ago, Ryanair announced it would be stopping its flights to Strasbourg due to the increase in air tax. On July 30, the Irish airline revealed it was cutting 25 routes in France, including those to Strasbourg, Brive, and Bergerac. The reason? A dramatic hike in the solidarity tax on plane tickets, jumping from €2.63 to €7.40 in March 2025. A whopping 180% increase that Ryanair describes as “astronomical” and that, according to them, undermines France's competitiveness compared to other European countries. The result: no more flights to Porto and Agadir... at least until Volotea comes into play.

Volotea, the winter savior

In less than a week, Volotea announced it would be taking over the two routes that were dropped. The Spanish low-cost airline, already a leader in Strasbourg with two-thirds of the flights operated, will, starting November 29, operate two weekly flights to Porto and one to Agadir. So exciting!

the exception: during Christmas, when flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays. A quick response that reassures travelers and strengthens Volotea's role as a pillar of Strasbourg traffic.

With Porto and Agadir, Volotea is increasing to 27 destinations departing from Strasbourg. The airline already serves France, as well as Greece, Italy, Spain, Croatia, and aims to strengthen its presence in Morocco and Portugal. Established in Strasbourg for 13 years, it...Strasbourg, Volotea has a lovely track record: 70 direct jobs created and six million passengers transported. You could say that the future is bright for this Alsatian airport... and the suitcases can stay ready!
