Rail enthusiasts, tapas lovers, and stork fans can rejoice: this summer, SNCF connects Strasbourg to Perpignan via a brand new direct TGV line, according to Actu Perpignan. Yes, direct, without having to deal with the hassle of connections in Paris and juggling between Gare de l’Est and Gare de Lyon with a suitcase that no longer has wheels. From July 12 to August 31, there will be a weekly round trip that connects the Alsatian capital to the Catalan city in just a little over 8 hours. It may be long for a TGV, of course, but it’s so much more relaxing than a fragmented journey involving regional trains, the metro, SNCF sandwiches, and broken escalators.

An unprecedented line crossing the country

Departure is from Strasbourg on Saturday mornings at 10:56, heading toward the sun, the vineyards of Roussillon, and the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean. Arrival at

cute; view in Perpignan at 7:20 PM. In the other direction, back to the land of kougelhopf on Sunday at 8:18 AM, arriving in Alsace at 5 PM. An unprecedented route that connects two rich cultures and makes a stop along the way at some gems like Montpellier, Lyon, Dijon, and Colmar.

With tickets ranging from 100 to 150 euros depending on the mood of the pricing algorithm, this line may not be the fastest or the cheapest… but it has incredible charm. A journey across France that you don’t see often, perfect for those who believe the journey is just as important as the destination. Whether you're craving tarte flambée or boles de picolat, this new TGV is the perfect opportunity to rhyme vacation with geographical stretching.
