The Roman Park will be officially inaugurated on September 20, 2025, during a grand community celebration. The City of Strasbourg has confirmed it: this new green sanctuary, located between the Roman road, Charmille street, and M351, is on track to welcome its first visitors as soon as next school year. A second wave of plantings will complete the area in the fall, but the essentials will be ready for the opening.
Work began at the end of 2024 and is progressing rapidly to deliver a park that meets expectations. With its 5.5 hectares, the Roman Park promises to provide a breath of fresh air in the Koenigshoffen neighborhood, which has long been in need of such a relaxation and leisure space.
Three atmospheres to please everyone
The park will be designed around three distinct areas, conceived for all types of uses. On one side, the...a recreational area will bring together sports and game enthusiasts, featuring a pétanque court, basketball hoops, a mini soccer field, not to mention the essential barbecues and picnic tables. The star of the spot? An enormous playground of 1,500 m², the largest in the whole city, complete with a zip line, monkey bridges, and climbing structures.
Another highlight is a friendly and cultural meeting area around the pavilion for the 2024 Olympic Games. This wooden installation, designed by students and the Compagnons du devoir, pays tribute to the triathlon disciplines and adds a unique architectural touch to the whole. It’s a nod to the sporting spirit, deeply rooted in the park’s DNA.
A green bubble and an oasis of biodiversity
The third area of the park will be dedicated to nature, featuring well-maintained vegetation and three biodiversity shelters. The goal is to create a real urban ecosystem, welcoming to insects, birds, and other local species. This sustainable approach perfectly complements the family-friendly and recreational aims of the space.
