The return of June in Strasbourg brings sunny rays, bustling terraces… and bicycles.here are the heating elements! Because yes, the challenge “Au Boulot à Vélo” is back for its sixteenth edition, with the ambition to transform the daily commute into a true collective movement. Say goodbye to the 8 AM traffic jams and the honking horns: it’s time for fresh air, tingling calves, and the pride of being part of a rapidly growing cycling community.
Launched this Monday, May 12, from a symbolic location— the Meinau stadium, undergoing an eco-transformation— the 2025 challenge promises to be more committed than ever. And for good reason: over 870 organizations and 16,500 participants answered the call last year, racking up nearly 2 million kilometers powered by leg strength. This achievement puts Strasbourg on the European podium for sustainable mobility. Pia Imbs, president of the Eurométropole, does not hide her pride.acute; : the challenge has even earned the European "Good Practice" label. And it's no coincidence that cycling here has already captured 13% of daily journeys (even if cars still lead with over 30%).
A Rich and Varied Program
But beyond the numbers, this challenge aims to break stereotypes. Forget the image of the "hippie-eco-friendly-in-baggy-pants" cyclist: the bike is meant to be a tool for everyday life, for everyone, no matter the style or status. Nicole Penot, president of Cadr 67 (celebrating its 50th anniversary!), emphasizes: cycling is just... normal. And Strasbourg is pulling out all the stops to encourage the transition: subsidies for electric bikes, community repairs, securing the cycling network... All sprinkled with festive and friendly events throughout the month: self-repair evening on May 22nd (with 6 workshops open simultaneously), mobility coffee breaks, children's challenge from June 2 to 6, a giant picnic at Heyritz park on June 6, or a tag hunt from June 10 to 24.
In short, it's fun, collective, and a bit competitive too — everything we love. So whether you're a salesperson, teacher, developer, artisan, or just a fan of two-wheeled adventures: in June, ditch the car and join the ride. Your future, your cardio, and your planet will thank you!
P.S.: The CADR67 association is celebrating its 50th anniversary and is organizing its big Vélotafteuf Crédit Mutuel on June 14 from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM at Sogs Avenir, 81 Route de Schirmeck. What's on the agenda: activities, food trucks, and a bike village. All the info is here!
