The highway patrol is out today, haha! According to a recent study, out of 1,576 vehicles observed over 6 hours on very busy roads, 75 drivers were identified as posing risks. Ignoring red lights and driving in bus lanes are quite common.

The Most Common Offenses

The study, conducted at busy intersections where pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers share the road, revealed the following behaviors:

Ignoring red lights (65% of observed cases)
Excessive speed (29%)
Driving in bus lanes (11%)
Stopping in a bike lane or crosswalk (11%)
Using a phone while driving (5%)

These dangerous behaviors have sometimes led to incidents. In 2% of cases, they resulted in sudden braking or a collision. The monitored intersections include the Patton-Rochester-Armorique crossroads, Cochardière Street, and Saint-Hélier Street.

This study highlights the importance of being cautious while driving in Rennes and accompanies the launch of an awareness campaign by MMA aimed at encouraging drivers to "put themselves in others' shoes."
