A star at the heart of the neighborhood

On Monday, May 19, 2025, during the city council meeting, the City of Rennes officially announced the name of this grand pedestrian plaza, a symbol of urban renewal in Blosne. This choice was made by the residents themselves, following a public consultation held over two weeks.
In total, 240 people participated in the vote, choosing from four remarkable women from the fields of art, culture, and diversity: Baya, Oum Kalthoum, Nina Simone, and Dalida. It was the latter, an artist with a thousand lives and global hits, who won the heart of the neighborhood.

"Dalida embodies performance, women, and freedom. She represents interculturality, strength, and immense talent that transcends generations," highlighted Béatrice Hakni-Robin, deputy dedicated to the Blosne neighborhood.

A Festive (and Musical) Inauguration

Mark your calendars for July 10, 2025, for the official opening of the rambla Dalida, which promises to be as vibrant as the diva herself. On the agenda: singing, dancing, and a festive atmosphere to celebrate this legendary figure, whose voice still resonates in our memories.
This new promenade, just a stone’s throw from Jean-Normand Square, is part of a larger transformation in the neighborhood, focusing on culture, citizen participation, and diversity as key drivers for a more lively and inclusive urban environment.

A Strong Symbol for Blosne

With this choice, Rennes reaffirms its commitment to a fairer and more diverse representation in public spaces. Dalida, born in Cairo, of Italian descent, a Francophone, and a cosmopolitan icon, stands at the crossroads of cultures, adored by the public and committed in her own way.

And what better way to pay tribute to her than with a sunlit promenade filled with music? Rennes once again shows that the city is moving forward, together with its residents.

and that she's not afraid to sprinkle a little sparkle and voice into her streets.
