A session where needles are not just in the spotlight
This Tuesday evening, the atmosphere is cozy in the 145-seat Arvor cinema. The lights dim, the film starts, but inside the theater, there’s no popcorn: here, they're knitting, crocheting, and embroidering! A joyful community of enthusiasts answered the call of the first knit-cinema event in Rennes.
At the heart of this delightful initiative is Annaëlle Caloc'h, a passionate knitter from Rennes, inspired by an Instagram post from the Studio des Ursulines in Paris. Without hesitation, she contacted Arvor. And director Éric Gouzannet immediately agreed: “We love original ideas, and it’s a quieter time, so it was the perfect moment to try.”

A Moment Out of Time
No need for blaring lights or huge subtitles, the films chosen for these sessions are gentle, slow, often in their original version but super accessible. Perfect for following the plot while keeping your eyes on your stitches. It’s warm, caring, intergenerational, and honestly soothing. “We’re talking about slow culture, just like we talk about slow food,” Annaëlle shares.
Knitting Connection, Really
Beyond being trendy, it’s mainly a chance to connect in a different way. Here, yarn balls circulate as freely as smiles. Beginners and experts exchange tips, techniques, and even their favorite movie moments. It’s soft, simple, and wonderfully human.
What’s Next?
Given the success of this first edition, l’Arvor might just turn this into a regular event. Annaëlle is already brimming with ideas to blend textile art and cinema even more.
So if you’re looking forward to a moment of d&...creative getaway, where your fingers get as busy as your dreaming mind, the ciné-knit is made for you!
