To whiten silver, because Montmartre is a romantic neighborhood, because popular cultures blend together... There are no shortage of theories about why there's such a concentration of wedding shops in Barbès. And yet, the explanations are quite different from what Parisians imagine...
The Legacy of Tati
In the 1990s, a new shop took the boulevard Marguerite-de-Rochechouart by storm: Tati Mariage. It was the first budget wedding store in Paris. Dresses, suits, wedding favors, and even flower bouquets: you could find everything you need to plan your wedding at unbeatable prices. Word of mouth spread quickly. The whole right bank, then all of Paris, and eventually all of France flocked to Tati Mariage to organize the most beautiful day of their lives!
We know that when a store is doing well, which was certainly the case for Tati Mariage, a cluster soon forms around it.
In just a few years, the neighborhood of Barbès has become the go-to place for enjoying a budget-friendly wedding. And even though Tati closed its doors in 2020, its competitors have continued to grow and expand.

A Favorable Neighborhood
But that's not the only reason for this gathering. The location of Barbès also makes it a strategic spot. Just a few minutes' walk from the Saint-Pierre market, artisans couldn’t ask for more. With tulle, lace, pearls, and white satin just a few meters away, Barbès is a true goldmine for tailors and dressmakers.

Finally, Barbès is well-known for being one of the centers of the Maghreb and African diaspora in the capital, which has greatly contributed to the growth of these businesses. Indeed, in these cultures, marriage is one of the most crucial moments in life. The expectations are high and the guest list is long, which is very beneficial for all these establishments.
