This evening, meet up for a 23-hour race in the Montmartre stairs!

At 10 PM, meet at the foot of the Sacré-Cœur hill to join the craziest race in the world: the Ultra-trail of Montmartre, or UTMM for friends. It’s a completely wild challenge that involves over 11,000 meters of elevation gain and hundreds of steps, to climb again and again and again and again and again and…

The principle of tonight's race is, in essence, very simple: climb and descend the stairs of rue Foyatier as many times as possible, leading to the Sacré-Cœur. In reality, this involves tackling over 200 steps, going up and down endlessly for nearly an entire day. It’s a challenge like no other, launched in 2017 by ultra-trail runner Casquette Verte, also known as Alexandre Boucheix, who is celebrating this year’s fourth edition.


The gathering of running enthusiasts

It had been 4 years since this event reserved for the boldest runners last took place in Montmartre. And this year, much to our delight, it returns on Friday, December 13th. For this 4th edition, there will be twenty of them!

see the chance (or not) to take off starting at 10 PM following a selection and a draw, with just one goal in mind: to complete 271 round trips on the steps of the challenging and impressive Foyatier Street.

Wearing performance sneakers, equipped with trail backpacks and hiking poles, they will have a maximum of 23 hours and 51 minutes to take on the challenge, and of course, to climb a total of 11,650 meters of positive elevation, otherwise, it wouldn’t be any fun. Throughout the race, they will be able to stop for a drink or a snack whenever they wish!

A funny idea

But the real question we all ask ourselves is why organize such a race, and, even worse, why participate ? « This race needs to exist because it's so crazy and strange to think that humans want to cover 11,650 m of elevation in a staircase in Paris, that it just has to happen for the principle of it », explains Casquette Verte to our colleagues at Parisien.

We might not fully grasp the concept of understanding it very well, but we’re definitely excited to take a stroll up by the hill tonight to cheer on the runners, and most importantly, to put on our finest retro mountain gear, the official outfit of supporters according to UTMM. One thing’s for sure, we’ll be absolutely, incredibly, and downright thrilled to just be on the sidelines.
