On Thursday, March 7, 2024, the French MMA had a big moment. The Professional Fighter League (PFL) organized a match between Cédric Doumbé and Baysungur "Baki" Chamsoudinov at the Accor Arena in Paris. The fight started at 10:30 pm and it didn't go as expected... A lot of hype for nothing Cédric Doumbé, a former kickboxing world champion, is a big name in MMA. In his last fight on September 30 at the Zenith in Paris, he knocked out Joran Zebo in just nine seconds. Doumbé is known for putting on a show. He calls himself "The Best" and loves to intimidate his opponents, even shouting out a war cry with the audience: "insert opponent's name here" you're dead! The match with young Baki was highly anticipated. Doumbé talked a big game for weeks, promising Baki the same fate as his past opponents...He even went as far as to rent an ambulance for the night, parked outside the Arena. With around 15,000 seats sold out quickly and famous faces in the crowd like Jamel Debbouze, François Civil, Vincent Cassel, and even Kylian Mbappé, it's no wonder the event was buzzing.


Doumbé, are you dead?

It seems like Baki was out to prove a point tonight. The 22-year-old judo expert managed to last not just one round, but three. Surprisingly, it was a tiny splinter in the toe that caused the downfall of the great kickboxer. The fight ended prematurely after Doumbé complained of foot pain, handing the victory to Baki. Although it was a disappointing finish for many viewers, the rematch is set to take place in a bigger venue in just two months. In the meantime, Twitter users have been having a field day joking about the champion, making the most of the situation.
