Legislative 2024: a giant caterpillar in the subway against the National Rally

On Sunday, July 7th, at 7:59 pm, the whole of France held its breath. A few minutes later, there was a moment of relief. The (very) numerous left-wing voters, and more generally all those who had the good sense to stand against the National Rally (RN), were able to let their joy burst out.

If some were quite sober, going to Place de la République to hug and celebrate together, others were more inventive. The Parisian metro never seems to end seeing incongruous situations. While a few days ago, a crab got lost between the seats, this time, it's a caterpillar that made the rounds of Line 11. However, this time, it's not about any animal, we're talking about a caterpillar in full summer camp mode in the village hall. Yes, yes. Following the results, several people started marching through the car, loudly proclaiming their opposition to the far right.


Everyone's weapons against the National Rally

While many media outlets predicted potential disruptions on Sunday night following the election results, it seems that the celebrations unfolded in a rather...friendly atmosphere! In fact, as the surprising, but overwhelming victory of the New Popular Front was announced all over France, people hurried to celebrate this as it should be, by creating a large chain in the metro. They moved in a line from car to car on line 11, cheerfully chanting "And the centipede annoys the National Front," echoing the famous slogan from the...song “Porcherie” by the band Bérurier Noir, which has become an anti-fascist anthem.


A beautiful picture of France

In the video, you can see a dozen people, of all ages and genders, walking one after the other, smiling, in front of the more or less amused looks of the other subway passengers. People who don't know each other at all, united in good spirits for a common cause. This obviously triggered hilarious reactions on Twitter (or X, you never know). And it's understandable. An initiative that didn't please everyone, but we think it's nice, and still happier than people who have grumpy faces in the morning to go to work. The only videos that have brought us more joy at the beginning of this week? The disappointed faces of RN supporters when the results were announced in the different. It rents HQ. It makes you (almost) want to feel sorry for them...
