The most iconic owl on the internet is making its debut at the highly anticipated International Agricultural Show in Paris. The event, running until March 1st at the Porte de Versailles, traditionally welcomes food lovers (and foodies) from the capital and beyond, and this year, Duolingo has a stand, the world's number one app for language learning. One thing is for sure: we’re in for a most unexpected weekend!
Get set, ready, hoot!
No cows this year, but a whole flock of owls! Duolingo is joining the International Agricultural Show at the Porte de Versailles from February 28th to March 1st. For two days, you can check out the stand featuring the green owl, complete with various mini-language challenges, workshops to discover farm-related words in different languages, and above all, a competition like no other.

To honor the brand's emblem, visitors are invited to showcase their best owl hoots right at the heart of the event. Yes, yes! You heard that right—it’s a owl call contest waiting for you this weekend! And don’t be shy: you’ll need to take the stage to let your voice be heard and win over the audience, who will help decide the winners through applause.

The idea of the contest is definitely not to make a fool of you. Duolingo has thought of you and has a (really) wonderful reward in store. Indeed, the two best owl imitations will win a generous trip to Europe valued at €2,000, to practice their language skills in an immersive experience. Just that!

But all kidding aside! Behind this totally wacky activity lies a serious issue, because today, the oral aspect remains a major barrier in language learning. According to the latest Eurobarometer, shared by Duolingo in their announcement, only 59% of Europeans say they can hold a conversation in a language other than their mother tongue, and only 28% can do so in more than one foreign language. With this competition, the platform invites participants to express themselves confidently and encourages everyone to give another language a try!
