« I wanted to show that Mexico is more than just sarapes and sombreros. » With this goal in mind, Hianeya opened her first spot, Mex’iik, in 2019. After successfully taking on this challenge, she decided to give it another shot at the beginning of the year by opening her 2nd location: Mex’iik Mer et Terre. And once again, the gamble more than pays off.

When Mexico Invites Itself to Paris

As soon as we step into this old brasserie from the 1900s, we are transported to another world, where Paris meets Mexico. On the walls, dozens of ex-votos, some strikingly dark from the volcanic soil. In the background, the greatest South American hits play. From the walls to the plates, Hianeya has a simple goal: to make us discover Mexico in a different way.

An Original Kitchen

No way are we going to serve the same old thing as everyone else; this is all about showcasing the rich flavors of the home country, which are often overly simplified. Take the  taco al Pastor (with pork), for instance, there’s no way it’s going to be red like everywhere else in Paris. It’s served black, and let me tell you, it’s absolutely to die for. Here, the focus is on delicious dishes made with fish and seafood. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the aguachile — a spicy ceviche made with marinated raw fish — but it’s the tacos Ensenada, filled with tempura fish, that still dance on our taste buds. The menu offers a true taste journey along the Mexican coast: tacos estilo Ensenada, pes...black Yucatán pastor, fish grilled Acapulco style, Monterrey beef tacos… A cuisine that is both typical and original, infused with exceptional spices (“iik” actually means chili in Maya).

And all of this is offered at a friendly price: lunch menu for €16.50. The journey continues in the glasses with margaritas, wines, and Mexican beers (you can find Corona on tap!), or even a chipotle gin, specially distilled for the restaurant in Bastille!
