May 1st, May 8th, May 29th… You’ve guessed it, in May, there are plenty of public holidays, all falling on Thursdays. It takes us less than a minute to set aside any hesitation: this year, we’re taking a (or two, or three) day(s) off on Fridays to enjoy a long weekend. No need to go too far, though! Around Paris, there are fabulous villages, each with that little something extra that gives them an absolutely unique charm. We’ve handpicked four places for you to visit for a day or a longer getaway.

Moret-sur-Loing, for a waterside escape

In Moret-sur-Loing, water is everywhere and mingles with medieval heritage. Fortified gate, dungeon, Notre-Dame church… This town, classified as a "Remarkable Heritage Site", is a delightful blend of history and nature.

"uable" is THE place to treat yourself to a little getaway not far from Paris. Those with a sweet tooth won't be disappointed, as this is where the Sucre d'orge, a legendary candy, was created by the Benedictine sisters of Notre-Dame-des-Anges in 1638. A weekend that's both sweet and historic is always a yes!

Vétheuil, to walk in Monet's footsteps

A village that has welcomed many artists, Vétheuil is especially famous for being the residence of Claude Monet for several years starting in 1878. The village was a true source of inspiration for the painter, who depicted it in several of his paintings. His house is now open for visits.

Provins, for a Dive into the Medieval Era

It's one of the most essential villages in Île-de-France , and for a good reason: it offers the most stunning journey back to the Middle Ages. With its medieval city recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Provins invites you to stroll along the ramparts, visit the Priory of Saint-Ayoul, and explore various period monuments. There are regular shows featuring birds of prey and knights, medieval banquets, and theatrical tours to create unforgettable experiences.

Gerberoy, to discover a village of bricks and wood

Located next to Normandy and Picardy, Gerberoy is a charming little village in Oise that makes you feel like the main character in a romance novel. Here, the gardens adorned with wonderful flowers – wisterias, hydrangeas, and especially roses – abound. They sit beside authentic houses with colorful shutters, made of plaster, half-timbering, and bricks. You can stroll through the cobbled streets, making sure to visit the Saint-Pierre Collegiate Church and the old market hall. It's a true little slice of paradise, just under two hours from Paris, blending nature and history !
