Last December, the capital bid farewell to one of its tourism staples: the night train Paris-Berlin. This decision followed budget cuts to the subsidies that allowed the railway company ÖBB, in collaboration with SNCF and Deutsche Bahn, to keep its Nightjets running on this route, as well as on the Paris-Vienna line. However, here's some great news: a turnaround has happened! Since Thursday, March 26, 2026, the Paris-Berlin line has been relaunched, operated by the company European Sleeper.

Originating from Belgium and the Netherlands, European Sleeper was born in 2023 and has been offering night trains connecting wonderful places like Milan, Amsterdam, Prague, and Berlin. Expect to pay €49 for a Budget class ticket (seat), €79 for a Classic class ticket (sleeper for four to six people), and starting from €149 for Comfort Plus class (sleeper compartments for three people). While before, the journey passed through Strasbourg, it will now head towards Brussels, linking up with the already existing Brussels-Berlin-Prague line. According to Le Figaro, there's an additional stop in Hamburg starting from July 13th!
A different kind of comfort from its predecessor
What about the comfort in these new trains? This is definitely where previous travelers who loved the Nightjet might feel a bit puzzled. In the European Sleeper trains, you'll find neither showers nor private toilets. Only a few cabins have a small sink. The comfort may vary from one coach to another since they were sourced from several railway companies. On the catering side, we also need to anticipate: goodbye to the dining car, we’ll only find a light dining offer.
