Whether it's for the long weekends in May or for summer vacations, whether you're traveling far or somewhere in France, there are a few essential tips to know to ensure a smooth trip — you know, those things you might not necessarily think of, but that can really make a difference

1) Always have a copy of your ID

Disasters can strike quickly. Imagine losing your ID while traveling and having nothing to prove who you are. A clear copy of your passport or ID card can save you from a lot of trouble at hotels or even airports—maybe even embassies in the worst-case scenario. Another option is to have a digital copy on your phone.

2) Take photos of your luggage

You’ve landed and your suitcase isn't showing up on the airport carousel. So you need to file a report, but oops, you can’t remember a distinctive feature of your plain black suitcase. If you have a photo of your bag from different angles, you’ll be able to provide the details you need!

the most detailed possible information, so that your claim can be processed quickly. Also, remember to take photographs of the contents : if the luggage is lost, insurance companies may ask for proof to determine the amount to compensate you.

3) Always have the essentials for clothing and hygiene in your carry-on bag

We know we sometimes exaggerate when imagining worst-case scenarios, but it’s always when we least expect it that something goes wrong. If you’re planning to travel with both checked baggage and a carry-on, remember to pack some spare clothes and underwear, the most basic hygiene products, and any items that might be particularly important, like your phone charger. It’s not unheard of for your bag that’s supposed to be checked to actually get left on the airport tarmac and take a few days to reach you. Better safe than sorry, and having something to wear during this waiting period is definitely a good idea.

4) Have an adapter with you

If you're staying in Europe, you shouldn’t face any issues, but once you're in the UK or traveling internationally, the adapter question comes up. Generally, hotels will have what you need, but depending on the type of accommodation you choose, you might find yourself stuck with your European plug in hand, which definitely won't fit the standards in the US or Australia, for example. So, check ahead!

5) Bring an empty water bottle

Empty, we emphasize. When you go through security, filled bottles and flasks are not allowed, so you'll need to either drink it all or leave it behind. But once you're through the checks, you have all the freedom to fill your bottle in the restroom or designed for this purpose, to make sure you have what you need to quench your thirst throughout your trip.
