Dreaming of acquiring real estate but on a tight budget? Guess what! In the beautiful Italian countryside, in Ollolai, a charming little village in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia, homes are more than affordable. This community, which has seen its population dwindle to just over 1170 in 2024, is playing a new card to attract new residents: offering houses at an astonishingly surprising price of just one symbolic euro.

Attracting Americans post presidential election
As delightful as this news is, it unfortunately doesn’t apply to everyone. The small town is specifically targeting disheartened Americans following Donald Trump’s election as the 47th President of the United States on November 5th. To do this, a specialized website has been created to persuade citizens from across the ocean to come settle in Italy. « We really want to attract Americans above all, and we will focus on them. We are not rejecting applications from people from other countries, but we are counting on Americans to help us revive the village; they are our trump card

Three types of housing offered
To revitalize the area, three types of accommodations are available: those famous one-euro houses that require renovation and repairs, temporary properties available for free, especially for remote workers and digital nomads, and homes that are ready to live in with a maximum price of around 100,000 euros. « The village is still half empty, we still have 100 affordable houses that are unoccupied, potentially ready for new residents!; for sale, ready to move in. We have mapped them all out, listed them, and soon photos will be online for buyers to check them out », says the mayor.
