Staying home to binge-watch all our favorite feel-good series, going out to party, or traveling to the other side of the world… When it comes to handling a breakup, the ways to react are as diverse as they are varied. The travel booking site Opodo looked into the topic and surveyed 9,000 adults, including 1,000 French people. And it seems that post-breakup vacations are a particularly popular trend among the residents of the Hexagon!

Traveling to Move Forward
The fact is clear: according to a survey conducted by Opodo, 72% of French people believe that travel can be a way to get over a breakup. This is especially true for younger folks, as 79% of those aged 18-34 see post-separation vacations as a kind of remedy.
Depending on their personalities, the type of trip chosen varies. For 32% of the French, going on vacation is a great opportunity to relax. 26% prefer partying to change their mindset. Only 18% opt for cultural vacations, whereas 14% lean towards sports trips and 4% focus on gastronomy.

Going on vacation based on the type of breakup experienced
Going away solo after a breakup, good or bad idea? In an interview with our colleagues from Femme Actuelle, couple therapist Maylis Duffaut explains that if the breakup is sudden, it’s better to « be surrounded by supportive people – friends, family ». On the other hand, if the separation is mutual, a vacation can be quite beneficial. It will « allow you to rediscover yourself, to “take stock” of your needs, desires, and values », she clarifies. If you find yourself in this situation, it’s up to you to determine what suits you best. And if that involves pack your bags and head to the other side of the globe, whether it’s Italy, Mexico, Indonesia, or Australia !
