May has begun and, believe it or not, summer is fast approaching. This means that travel trends are starting to evolve more closely in relation to the international context, giving us a clearer idea of our getaway options, as well as the places that are likely to be the most popular.Hotels.com and Abritel have looked into this, revealing that European destinations that are just a few hours away by flight are in high demand, especially the islands for a good dose of change of scenery.

The Greek Islands particularly in vogue

Forget about those long trips to the other side of the world: this year, a large part ofFrance will play the proximity card for summer vacations. This trend can be largely explained by the shortages of kerosene that are increasingly affecting the European aviation sector.

In fact, travelers are favoring closer destinations that require less travel time. Searches for islands — especially Greek ones — have skyrocketed: for Paros and Kos, they have notably increased by 60%. The Canary Islands (Spain) and Madeira (Portugal) have seen a rise in searches of 50%. Crete (Greece) is also quite popular, with an increase of 20%. Sicily (Italy), Corfu (Greece), and Mykonos (Greece) experienced a 15% rise in searches.

Are city trips the new travel trend?

In addition to the appeal of European islands, a second trend has emerged...

acute;e : the increase in searches for stays in France, particularly in the cities perfect for city trips, especially in the south of the country. Lyon is breaking all records with a 55% increase, closely followed by Toulouse with a rise of 45%. Bordeaux and Menton are seeing a 20% increase, while Aix-en-Provence and Marseille are at 15%. In Nice and Montpellier, the increase is at 10%.

To try to escape the crowds and take advantage of the lowest prices, Hotels.com and Abritel recommend focusing on the first and last week of the holidays for your trip, but also to get away from the coast
