With the speed at which new train connections are developing across Europe, there's fantastic news for the planet: soon it will be possible to travel quickly all around the Old Continent without even taking a plane. After the opening of the Paris-Berlin line at the end of 2024 and the reopening of the line between the capital and Milan next March, there's a brand new destination that's set to emerge within a year: the Bavarian capital, aka Munich.

Long live the railways!

Choosing the train over the plane for medium distances is the new project that is springing up all over Europe, and the SNCF is fully on board, if we believe the latest news. Indeed, the Railway Company continues its partnership with Deutsche Bahn to always diversify. It's a bit more of their offer after the success of the Paris-Berlin line. And for this new collaboration, the city of Munich has been chosen.

Great news for beer lovers, who will now have direct and regular access to the Bavarian capital to celebrate Oktoberfest properly, right among the locals. And with a bit of luck, this will be the case as early as 2026, since the opening of the line is set to be announced for the end of next year.

A more economical and eco-friendly option

For now, the SNCF already offers one trip per day to Munich. Indeed, a TGV departs every 24 hours from the Gare de l’Est at 3:55 PM to reach the German city.

leaves at 5:41 AM. The same goes for the return, with a train departing every morning at dawn from Munchen Hbf. However, the development of a new line will offer even more trips, as TGV and ICE trains (the German equivalent) will be running multiple times a day, making for a faster journey than it is now. This increase in trips should also help lower ticket prices, even though, for now, the information remains secret on both sides of the border.
