Here are 10 carefully chosen addresses to rediscover Marseille away from the crowds, through secret gardens, forgotten coves, and hidden tables.

1. Stay at Château Beaupin, between sea and majesty

When it's time to settle in, forget about impersonal hotels and head to Château Beaupin, a stunning 19th-century residence nestled between Prado and the beaches. Here, everything is peaceful, with golden stone and Mediterranean greenery. There are 14 charming rooms (some with sea views), a turquoise pool, a private cocktail bar, and a bistronomic restaurant (tried and approved x1000). A special mention goes to the weekend brunch and the hidden speakeasy behind a tufted door. We won’t say more; you have to stay and experience it to truly love it!

2. The Garden of La Magalone: An Unforgotten Oasis

Tucked between two busy roads, this French-style garden is a hidden treasure. Designed by Le Nôtre's student, Édouard André, it surrounds an 18th-century bastide and offers a timeless escape. With manicured lawns, statues, fountains, and often, discreet concerts thanks to the Cité de la Musique located on site, it’s truly a slice of Versailles under the Marseille pines.

3. Limmat, the Swiss bistro on Cours Julien

It’s like the dream vacation home: a terrace with steps covered in graffiti, a delicate and ocean-inspired menu, a chef (Lili Gadola) from Switzerland, and nature wines that are simply breathtaking. The menu changes based on what’s fresh, the fish comes from the Old Port, and the service is oh-so-gentle. You feel right at home, away from the noise, like at a friend’s place who has outstanding taste.

4. The Cove of the Monkey Bay

At the end of the road, at the edge of the city, at the end of the world. The Cove of Monkey Bay, tucked away behind Cape Croisette, looks like something out of a movie. With turquoise waters, little cabins, and a few boats. You can walk there from the Madrague de Montredon, diving into a postcard-like setting without tourists. Don't forget good shoes and a snorkel!

5. Chez Aldo, a beloved gem

On the port of Madrague, just a stone's throw from the boats and nets, you’ll find Chez Aldo, a down-to-earth yet soulful Marseille institution. Grilled fish, sea bass with fennel, and a sea view to complement your meal.
Here, there are no frills, just ultra-fresh ingredients and a lovely marine vibe that we all adore.

6. The Flea Market

It’s the joyful chaos of Marseille! A huge jumble where vintage lamps, forgotten dishes, Julio Iglesias vinyls, and palace furniture coexist. Sometimes you can find treasures, and often there’s plenty to marvel at. It’s nothing like a sterile Provençal market: here, you haggle, you dig, you experience life!

Rue du Marché aux Puces – 13014
Open every day except Monday

7. Yoga at Malmousque at Sunrise

Meet at dawn, mat under your arm, on the rocks of Malmousque. A magical spot by the sea to greet the sun facing the Frioul Islands. Several independent instructors hold informal sessions there. And if not, you can simply breathe, silently, facing the water.

8. Otto, a vibrant seafood dining spot

In Vauban, Otto is a hidden gem where everything revolves around taste. A cozy space with a big personality. On the menu: bottarga, seafood, local vegetables, and natural wines. A beautiful and raw celebration of the Mediterranean, far from clichés.

100. A sunset perched at Friche la Belle de Mai

Okay, it's not a secret. But it's always magical. Going up to the rooftop at Friche for a DJ set, an exhibition, or just a drink with friends guarantees you'll see Marseille turn pink right before your eyes.

11. Paulette's Cabanon, the Perched Guinguette

It's the hideout of the Marseillais! A wooden guinguette, tucked away in a little alley in Roucas Blanc, surrounded by cabins, a suspended terrace, and lemon trees. You come here for the chill vibe, the live music, and the homemade cocktails. No WiFi, no stress. Just sunshine and friends.
