In the coming months, the European regulation, this set of rules that guarantees the protection of air passengers, is going to be revised. This means there might be drastic changes, as Poland — holding the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for six months — has decided to make it a priority of its program.
The outlines of these changes were published by the European Commission last July, based on proposals made by Anaïs Escudié, the legal director of RetardVol.fr on May 31, 2024, as mentioned by our colleagues from Capital. A Change in Policy for Canceled or Delayed Flights
One of the major changes that could take place concerns canceled or delayed flights. According to the European Commission, flights diverted to an airport other than the originally planned one, those that turn back to the original airport, or those that are advanced by more than an hour will be considered canceled flights. Additionally, travelers with a flight delayed by over 3 hours should be able to receive compensations similar to those reserved for people whose flight is canceled.
Better Communication about Delays and Refunds
Airlines will also have to provide clearer communication regarding discounts and refunds. point of honor to better communicate with their passengers, especially in case of a flight delay. The name and address of the airline involved should be stated clearly, so that travelers can make a request for a refund or compensation.
