The best libraries in Paris

In Paris, there are no fewer than 75 libraries, including 58 lending establishments and 17 heritage or specialized establishments, which welcome 8 million people every year. From the most majestic to the most modern, the most comprehensive to the most accessible... how do you choose?

To all students and other lovers of the smell of paper and beautiful architectures: le Bonbon has selected for you the crème de la crème of Parisian libraries. Get ready, get set, read!

The most comprehensive: National Library of France - Francois Mitterrand Site

If the BnF has its own metro station on line 14, it's no coincidence. Inaugurated in 1995 by François Mitterrand, it is the most important library in France. It has 6 reading rooms, two of which are open to the public, and in terms of documentation, it is probably the most comprehensive. It also hosts numerous exhibitions, and there is even a café.Party. Sold, we take our annual card for 38 euros! The only reproach that could be made to it is that it may be a little too big, to the point that the most absent-minded can get lost in it.

The most studious: Hotel de Ville Library

p>The library is open for free to all adults who have the specialized library card from the City of Paris. When it comes to print materials, there are 600,000 volumes, 7,000 titles of periodicals, 2,270 manuscripts, nearly 10,000 photographs, and over 10,000 architectural drawings that make up the wealth of this library. Beyond its content, the decor is worthy of a film, and let me tell you, it's nice to sometimes feel like the main character.

The most student-friendly: Inter-University Library of the Sorbonne

Of course, the legendary Parisian university has a magnificent library to offer us. And it's in the heart of the 5th arrondissement that it happens! The Inter-University Library of the Sorbonne has one of the richest collections in France for literature and humanities and is highly knowledgeable in ancient sciences, medieval and modern history, geography, and many other subjects. A true gift for all those who thirst for knowledge!

The most historic: National Library of France (BnF) - Richelieu

More than just a place to study, the Richelieu national library, just steps away from the Palais Royal, is an imposing piece of Paris' historical heritage. One could spend the whole day under the impressive glass ceiling of the oval room, as the place is simply dreamy. Here, we take advantage of free access to a series of exceptional collections, and we allow ourselves to be transported in the footsteps of great intellectuals like Simone de Beauvoir or Hannah Arendt.

The most central: Bpi - Public Library of Information

We often forget that the Centre Pompidou is not just a place where works of art are exhibited. It also houses the incredible Public Library of Information, where you can come to read, search, study, watch, or listen to all sorts of information. Students love going there, whether it's raining or sunny, to work on their projects. Others enjoy browsing through the shelves in search of any kind of knowledge. In short, it doesn't matter what your profile is: here you'll find everything you need.
