The Garden of the Albert-Kahn Departmental Museum

Designed by the landscaper Fumiaki Takano, this small Japanese garden is a metaphor for Albert Kahn's life. For a bit of backstory, Albert Kahn himself planted his own garden at the beginning of the century, but unfortunately, almost nothing remains of it, except for a large Himalayan cedar, a weeping beech on a small islet, and two little bridges. The new garden is a much more modern creation, where you can see beautiful cherry trees, bamboo, pebbles, red wooden bridges, and even koi fish! A guaranteed escape into another world.

A result of a collaboration between the city of Issy-les-Moulineaux and the city of Ichikawa in Japan, this ultra-traditional zen garden – perfect for meditation and relaxation – features different styles of Japanese gardens that represent various periods in the history of the Land of the Rising Sun. Always incorporating the essential elements of Japanese gardens: greenery, stone, and water.

And for fans of the Land of the Rising Sun, you'll also find Japanese-inspired gardens, nestled among tranquil water features and bonsais, particularly near pavilions 15, 16, and 17.
