Viva la cultura! Madrid is far from the coast, some may say it lacks the sea, but the capital doesn't need it. Its city center is very classy with the Royal Palace, the Retiro Park, and its Gran Via. In Madrid, culture is evident. The Prado Museum doesn't need to prove its reputation anymore. And not far from it, close to the beautiful Atocha train station (which suffered the attacks of 2004), you can find the amazing museum of contemporary art, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. Besides its always cool temporary exhibitions, its permanent collection gathers 20th-century gems, with a big part dedicated to the Civil War. You can admire the works of Joan Miro and Picasso, including the famous and gigantic... [translation incomplete]

The Walks

In Spain, we love to take walks, it's a tradition; children, old people, young people, everyone takes a walk. After visiting the Prado Museum or the Reina Sofia, take a little walk in the park.Retiro Park is a great idea; it is splendid with its lake where you can go boating - a super romantic cliché! Another walk to do as a couple or with family is the Madrid Rio Promenade. Inaugurated last year, this walk follows the Madrid River, which was previously not well-kept because there was a highway passing over it! The path will lead you right behind the Royal Palace. Then you should visit the very old neighborhood of La Latina. There are great restaurants and bars, and on weekends the atmosphere is always amazing - you can drink and eat for cheap! If you're into dance, there is the National Flamenco Ballet with performances offered at very affordable prices. We continue walking towards the center to visit the must-see Plaza Mayor; a bit further, Puerta del Sol and Callao are ideal for shopping.

It's time for some shopping.

Côté cuisine, les Espagnols n'ont plus leur réputation à faire. Une cuisine chaleureuse entre tradition et inventivité s'offre à nous.

Serious; we (à à propos at affordable prices). At the moment the MadrEat operation offers a concentration of food trucks, bars, and ephemeral restaurants a weekend a month in the city center.

In Madrid, "pinchos" and "raciones" restaurants are numerous. The pinchos are tapas that are eaten with a toothpick (pinchos' translation). Invented in Galicia, they have conquered the capital. It's the Spanish spirit at its best: it's meant to be shared, it's convivial, it's delicious. We can recommend the restaurant "El Golfo de Bizcaia" located on Plaza del Angel, not far from Plaza Santa Ana, it offers "pinchos y raciones" with an avant-garde touch. On Santa Ana square, we can easily find our Iberian happiness: "El Villarosa" offers flamenco shows in an Andalusian courtyard.

We advise you, if you are on the Castellana side, to try El Lateral's very modern "raciones" or "El Lateral" or "El Morao is a restaurant that has an open kitchen. Vegetarians easily find happiness in this city, as there are numerous vegan restaurants, particularly in the neighborhoods of La Latina and Lavapies. One example is  "El Estragon".

Let's go back to the Prado side! After visiting the museums, let's treat ourselves to a drink in an exceptional setting, the Radisson Blu. We can also enjoy delicious cuisine there. How about a tortilla de patatas, just like grandma used to make, paired with a Gin and Tonic, the favorite drink of young Spaniards? The chef at Radisson, Beatriz Ferrer Carrillo, prepares a cuisine that combines tradition and modernity. It's fresh, often organic, and each dish delights our 5 senses. Don't miss it!

The true recipe for Tortilla de patatas For 4 people Ingredients: 5 eggs 4 medium-sized potatoes 1 medium-sized onion Salt Olive oil Preparation: 1- Wash and peel the potatoes, then cut them into equal slices. 2- Heat olive oil in a 22-23 cm pan. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced potatoes with a pinch of salt. Add the chopped onion and reduce the heat until everything is well cooked. The onion should remain slightly crispy and the potatoes should be cooked. Continue cooking until everything is slightly caramelized. 3- Beat the eggs in a bowl, then add the potatoes and onion. 4- Heat the pan again with 2 spoonfuls of oil to cover the surface of the pan. AAdd the mixture of eggs, potatoes, onion and lower the heat.

5- When bubbles appear on top of the tortilla, it's time to flip it. The easiest way to do this is to use a plate slightly larger than the pan. Cover the pan with the plate, flip the pan with the tortilla in a quick motion so that it falls onto the plate.

6- The tortilla is cooked to perfection when it is firm on the outside but still moist on the inside.

Enjoy!

Nightlife

Madrid comes alive at night. Since the "Movida" of the 80s, a creative cultural movement of which Almodovar is an icon, Madrid has never stopped partying. From ultra hip clubs to beer bars to neighborhood terraces... the places that make the Madrid night scene come alive are numerous. Chueca is the gay district of the capital, withits restaurants and bars, but to go out, the neighborhood of Malasaña is a must-visit neighborhood known as the "hipster" area nowadays, we particularly recommend the Coconut Bar.

In the whole city, there are many clubs and it's easy to find happiness among the multitude of DJs who perform in the capital. One of the best dancefloors is perhaps the one at Kapital, because partying in a former opera house is super classy! To gain some height, after a nice exhibition or retrospective, you can enjoy a good cocktail on the terrace of "Del Círculo de bellas artes" with an incredible view of Cibeles, Gran Vía and surroundings. (€3 to go up to the terrace).

We're still hungry

In Madrid, there is also this culture of covered markets where you can taste everything! Fresh, traditional, and modern products all in one place. Conviviality is the key word here.rdre. This is the case of the Mercado San Anton, one of the best places in the capital. Located in Chueca, this "market" has several floors. The decoration and architecture are very modern. There are stalls of fruits, vegetables, and fish downstairs, and higher up there are stands with cuisine from around the world and traditional cuisine. We can taste everything, salty and sweet! On the roof, there is a terrace with a bar-restaurant that offers a breathtaking view of the sky and the neighborhood!
