Opened just a few years ago by three adventurers, Baoli Bao has become the temple of Asian burgers. We love the ultra-soft black bun made of vegetable charcoal, with marinated beef, goat cheese, honey, thyme, grilled zucchini, caramelized onions, spinach shoots, balsamic cream, and pepper sauce, which we accompany with a sesame-flavored bubble tea. We absolutely fell in love with the homemade acai bowl with granola, peanut butter, mango, blueberries, and seasonal fruits that change regularly. A true institution, Alex's canteen has been around since 1992. The owner's passion? To delight the taste buds of average folks like us. The dumpling and noodle soups are incredibly generous, but our guilty pleasure remains the addictive steamed and slightly grilled bao, filled with minced pork. Vegetarians are not forgotten with the celery/ginger dumplings and garlic sautéed eggplants. Everything is, of course, delicious and homemade.
