The Editor

Every moment is a perfect moment to enjoy a classic Chinese meal, and we have compiled a list of our top 10 favorite Chinese restaurants! Who's up for a budget-friendly trip to Beijing? At the top of our list is Wen Zhou. This establishment, founded in 1992 by Mr. Jinda Xu and now run by his son Alexandre Xu, is a true gem! Nestled on Belleville Street for nearly thirty years, Wen Zhou serves up mouth-watering dumplings and a delightful soy sauce noodle dish with savory ground beef that has captured the hearts of the entire community. You have to try it for yourself! The menu is always evolving with new and innovative dishes. Did you know that this is where we used to go for lunch after editing, a decade ago?

While favorites like baozi and chao fan are still on the menu, now there are also options like steamed fish and whole Peking duck for sharing. The 90's style atmosphere with a touch of red adds to the dining experience, making it a delightful place to enjoy with friends.

The Most Secret

Delights of Condorcet

This is one of those secrets that we'd love to keep to ourselves, but it's impossible not to share the mind-blowing experience of Delights of Condorcet, this little Chinese gem like no other. And where to begin, when everything in such a small restaurant is such a heartwarming delight?

The most unlikely

I'm there, 不见不散

Just by watching the hungry people diving into their dishes through the window, one can already salivate with anticipation. There's no doubt, here you can taste some epic skewers! Perfect for a winter stop, indulgence is key and the Sichuan specialties are inspired by Chinese street food. Lamb, beef, and gizzard skewers, lotus root, enoki mushrooms... everything is on the menu. You can even have some tofu with hundred-year-old eggs!

The spiciest

Three times the spice

Sensitive taste buds, stay away from this place, because as the name suggests, spice is the star here. As the sibling of "Two times the spice," this second location specializes in noodles and dumplings, in a modern setting with lovely wooden tables and ceramic glasses. And when it comes to spice, the most fearful can always opt for the Sichuan dumplings with a soft and elastic homemade dough, as the spice level remains manageable.

The hottest

Belt Noodles

You get to choose the width of your noodles, your broth, vegetarian or carnivorous, spicy or not. We fall for the Biang Biang noodles, a specialty of the house, the cheapest (8€) but the best, they say. XXL belt noodles, extra wide for an overdeveloped indulgence, boiling chili oil, garlic, coriander, chives, Chinese cabbage, all in a well-seasoned small broth that the house keeps as a secret. It's hot, you slurp, it flows down your throat, you melt. The broth is perfect, the high-quality chili doesn't overpower the palate, delicately enhancing an already harmonious dish. The pasta melts in your mouth, you almost feel like you're discovering a good Italian dish. As a bonus,....

Imagine yourself sitting back on a beautiful terrace, savoring your meal. To me, that's the ultimate dining experience! And make sure to try the incredibly refreshing marinated cucumbers and the tasty black mushrooms with chives. Just delightful!

The Most Artisanal

Mian Guan

Do you hear that noise? Those are the noodles, being prepared right in front of our eyes. We can see them in the distance in the kitchen, stretching the elastic dough with a swinging motion up and down, causing it to slap against the countertop. All of this is done with sheer arm strength. Even though the place might not look like much, observing them in action is impressive and quite mesmerizing. To add to the experience, there's the sweet voice of a Chinese woman who comes to showcase her singing talents while serving hungry mouths. Happiness is complete when the noodles arrive, gently floating in a rich and flavorful broth. Served in various thicknesses and with all sorts of sauces, they instantly warm up the taste buds. A special shout-out goes to the stir-fried noodles with marinated soy pork. You're going to love it!

The fastest

L’Impérial Choisy

On the left, there are lacquered ducks hanging in the showcase, on the right, the entrance door. We choose both options: to enter this Chinese restaurant and eat a lacquered duck. Judging by the long queue, it is worth it, no one leaves disappointed and everyone is satisfied.

They say the smaller, the better. Isn't that right? Well, at Zhao's, it's so small that it's packed, but once you taste their meat buns, steamed pork, or shitake salads, you'll be more than willing to rub elbows with your neighbors.
