Opening a restaurant in the middle of a lockdown? What a crazy idea. Thanks to the take away service that was implemented during the crisis, it's a challenge that these two food enthusiasts were not afraid to take on. On the menu of this new shop by the water: rolls (aka the Kumo, we'll come back to that), lunch boxes, picnic baskets to share, and daily specials with fresh and seasonal produce. Because yes, the culinary experience is not just limited to the famous Kumo. Behind the stove, a chef of Japanese origin delivers his most delicious recipes depending on his moods and the market's offerings. Bring on the Japanese curries, donburi, tonkatsu... yum.
In the late afternoon, the Kantine bar offers cocktails, Japanese beers, and refreshing lemonades to be enjoyed on the terrace or by the canal, with your feet in the water (or almost). In fact, it's the first "real" Japanese restaurant to settle by the Saint-Martin canal... and, we hope, not the last!
What is a Kumo?
« .Better than a wrap, more delicious than a salad, easier than sushi… » This is how this little marvel could be described. Initially, the two ambitious individuals made a bet to make healthy food more accessible in companies and universities by making these rolls available to everyone through vending machines (5€ per roll). The goal? To delight, satisfy, and provide nutritional balance without having to spend a fortune. Crunchy vegetables, perfectly cooked rice, tasty sauce… a recipe for success. Unfortunately, with the health crisis and the closure of places offering these famous rolls, the team had to come up with creative solutions to survive. Luckily, the team had the opportunity to invest in the cafeteria of the Citizen K hotel, located on the Saint-Martin Canal. In this Kantine, the Kumo rolls are now available to all Parisians, who can also enjoy other delicious Japanese-inspired recipes.
We believe that a feast is always a good idea...
