With nearly 10,000 photographs taken by Eugène Atget in the late 19th century, the book "Paris Passion" reveals a forgotten Paris, one of old neighborhoods and outdated shop windows... Discover some works from this artist who "owned" all of old Paris, which has now disappeared.
It was during the time when the Commission du Vieux Paris was created that the photographer Eugène Atget immortalized the ancient neighborhoods destined to disappear, and the small jobs condemned by the rise of department stores.
"He will be remembered as a historian of urban planning, a true romantic, a lover of Paris, a Balzac of the camera, whose work allows us to weave a vast tapestry of French civilization," wrote Berenice Abbott, Man Ray's assistant, about Atget.
Throughout his life, the photographer organized his photographs himself. He meticulously documented Paris, capturing the architecture, streets, and daily life of the city in the late 19th century. Atget's photographs provide a unique glimpse into a bygone era, where the charm and character of old Paris still resonate.
