You don't think we're going to give you the answer that easily! The Eiffel Tower is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year. It's a good opportunity to remember some fun facts about the Iron Lady. To get the answer directly about the height of the Eiffel Tower, go to number 10.
1. First important piece of information to know, the construction of the building started on July 1st, 1887. It was completed 2 years later, on March 31st, 1889.
2. It was built by Gustave Eiffel, of course, for the Universal Expo of 1889, which celebrated the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. It was only meant to last for 20 years. It was saved by scientific experiments, especially the first radio transmissions.
3. Criticized at its origin, it was called "The pierced giraffe".

4. Today, the estimated value of the Eiffel Tower is €434 billion.
5. The weight of the tower is estimated to be a total of 10,000 tonnes.
6. The Eiffel Tower is the most popular paid monument in the world. However, it is still surpassed by three other sites in France in terms of visitors: Disneyland, Notre-Dame de Paris, and Le Louvre!

7. There is a chimney at the foot of the Eiffel Tower (behind the West pillar). It was used to power the machines during construction.
8. The Tower has been repainted 19 times since its construction! That's an average of once every 7 years. Since 1968, it has sported the "Eiffel Tower brown," a bronze color designed and reserved for its use only. It comes in three shades, from the lightest at the top to the darkest at the bottom, to ensure a uniform perception of the hue! Note: the Tower has changed color several times, from reddish-brown in the 1950s to yellow ocher in 1899.
9. Until 2000, there was a small railcar that carried the tower's beacon and rotated around the top to illuminate Paris. Today, it has been replaced by 4 fixed spotlights placed on each side that take turns.

10. During its inauguration, the Eiffel Tower measured 300 meters in height. The Eiffel Tower remained the tallest monument in the world for 42 years until the completion of the Chrysler Building in New York (319 meters) in 1930. Throughout the 20th century, a succession of antennas were added to the top for radio and television purposes. In 1994, it measured 17 meters. In 2008, it reached its current height of 324 meters!
For reference, the first platform is 56 meters high, the second is at 114 meters, and the third culminates at 276 meters. For comparison, the Dubai Khalifa Tower, built in 2009 and reaching a height of 810 meters, is equivalent to 2.5 Eiffel Towers. And as a fun fact, the Eiffel Tower now surpasses the Chrysler Building by 5 meters!
